- Network Assessment
A man goes to the doctor and says “Doctor, I’ve become a compulsive thief.”
The doctor prescribes him a course of tablets and says, “If you’re not cured in a couple of weeks would you get me a widescreen television?”
In many cases, a network assessment is a prescription for change. If you represent a company that has had meticulous strategic planning and you have grown your network with a singular vision throughout, then a network assessment may just re-affirm your strategy. The likelier scenario is that your company has grown and your network is trying to keep up with demand. You are “bolting” on fixes and investing inconsistently throughout your network’s evolution. If this rings true, you have come to a point where problems are being manifested due to incompatibilities, inconsistencies in configuration, and poor process. Simply put, your network lacked a central planner who would have ensured a steady and progressive growth. You are now left to figure out how to re-organize your infrastructure more efficiently.
A network assessment from a reputable company is a great place to start. However, you must find a company willing and able to go beyond the technical surface of the network and approach the problem with central planning in mind. A great network assessment will show your company its current state, how to make it efficient again, but more importantly, will have your company’s goals in mind when suggesting where to go. This is a critical CIO component that can cut future costs and future headache.
With a network assessment you must be willing to invest in the results. The cure for your IT pain lies within intimately knowing your current IT landscape and the direction you are headed. Partner with a company like Alliance Technologies and you will realize the benefits of a network assessment that goes beyond the technical surface.
